One City, Two Brothers

Description

This folktale is mentioned in many mosques, churches and synagogues.

This is a narrative of how the city of Jerusalem came to be. This folktale tells about two brothers that are very different, yet they learn to find peace within themselves. These two brothers lived in two separate villages and split their harvest among each other. The oldest brother, who has a wife and children begins to worry about his younger brother because he is getting older and he need to save. The older brother secretly begins to bring additional grain to his brothers storage. However, the next day the older brother notices that he has the equal amount that he had before.

In the meantime, the younger brother has been worrying about his older brother as well; so he also decides to deliver additional grain to his brothers storage. While also finding his storage equally full too. The brother then meet up on the hilltop, with a donkey carrying a loaded bag of grain. The spot where the two brothers meet, becomes blessed, and there on the spot becomes Jerusalem.

This narrative is based on the two brothers of different faiths, the Jews and the Arabs. This book captivates the resolution of fellowship and brotherhood.

A beautiful narrative with a deep message

Discussion

1. Do you know the Gospels of Solomon in the bible?

2. How many different ways can we resolve our differences?
