Kenya's Children Literature Blog: Young Zeus

This book is a brief history of the onset of Greek mythology. Young Zeus is a young boy who was hidden as a baby from his father who ate his siblings. So Zeus decided to gather a plan to free his siblings. His father Cronus feared of being overpowered, which led him to swallowing his children. Zeus mother helps him with a plan to free his siblings so that he would then have some pals to play with.

Why didn't Zeus father swallow him?

Well, Zeus mother tricked his father by wrapping up a stone into a blanket and and presenting it to her husband, in return, Cronus grabs the bundle of stone and blanket and gobbles it up whole. Which Cronus still believes that his son Zeus is still in his stomach.

Overall, Zeus is able to free his siblings from his father's belly, but not without a fight. But it was settled, Young Zeus becomes the boss of everyone and becomes ruler of the earth and the heavens.

Hi Kenya,

What if for a activity for the book each student draws themselves as a greek god or goddess. They will choose what they will be the god or goddess of and this will influence how they look. They must choose what they will wear, what colors will represent them as well as symbols. Afterwards they will come up with a storyline to tell the story of themselves. Essentially they must tell the story of how they became a god or goddess. They can take it a step further by coming up with a their own family tree. They can choose which gods and goddesses to add to their family tree. Once they have drawn themselves, their family tree, and created their story they will share it to the class.
