Milton Hershey:



Milton Hershey was born on a farm called Homestead on September 13, 1857. The farm was near Hockersville, Pennsylvania. He was born to Henry and Veronica Hershey and a younger sibling name Serena. In the year of 1866, his family became established on a farm near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. But the death of Milton's younger sister shook the family. The family became hendered, greatly. His mother put the blame on his father, then eventually, she told Henry to leave. 


Off to work

In the year of 1870, Milton dropped out of school. He held only a fourth grade education. Milton had to get a job to help support his family. In 1872, Milton was taught how to make candy by Joseph R. Royer. By the time he turned 18 years old, Milton had earned a lot about candy. Milton then opened a candy shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the money he had borrowed from his family. He was a proud business owner. Within six years, his business had failed. However, he moved to Chicago Illinois were he opened a business making caramel candies. 


A Giving Heart

In 1883, He then moved to New York City, New York. There he worked during the day for a candy maker and at night, he worked on making his own caramels. In 1884, Milton Hershey, started the Hershey Chocolate Company. In the year 1900, Milton introduced the milk chocolate bar. to the world. In 1905, The new Hershey chocolate factory was established. In years to come, Milton Hershey then built an amusement park, he opened a Hershey Industrial school for children, and a Hershey Trust Company for charities. Lastly, in 1935, Milton started the M.s Hershey Foundation that supports educational and cultural opportunities for residents that live in the area. Milton S. Hershey died on October 13, 1945.
